The company was started by the Abakhan family in the late forties as a rug weaving business. As each decade passed the business became more successful, and the first retail outlet was opened over thirty years ago.

Still headed by family members, Abakhan has now been trading for almost 60 years and with six branches throughout North Wales and the North West, Abakhan is one of the largest retailers of fabrics, yarns, crafts, trimmings and haberdashery and has long been a favourite with sewers, knitters and crafters.

In the beginning of the nineties Abakhan also opened a successful subsidiary in Estonia which has also continued to expand and more recently into Latvia
